About Us

Our name “Greenock” is derived from a Scottish word meaning Green-Oak.  The Scottish town with the same name lies on the south-west coast of Scotland. Because of the abundance of oak trees at our hospital and out of the affection Dr. Lewis Puckett had for this Scottish town, the name seemed a nice fit.  In 1988 following an internship at Texas A&M and three years with Hagyard-Davidson & McGee, in Lexington Kentucky, Dr. Smokey Puckett joined his Dad’s practice Clear Creek Animal Hospital. Because of a growing equine population and the reality that the closest hospital for major surgical or medical treatment of horses was 3-4 hours away, Smokey and his Dad built Greenock Farm as the large animal division of Clear Creek in 1992.  In 1996 Dr Lewis Puckett sold his practice and joined Smokey at Greenock; thus began the companion animal practice.

From the moment you set foot into Greenock, we believe you will appreciate our warm, professional atmosphere.  Greenock Farm Veterinary Hospital is a mixed animal practice treating “treating all creatures great and small”. While the majority of our large animal patients are horses, we do see small ruminants (goats and sheep, llamas, alpacas) and cattle. Dogs, cats and many “pocket pets” (hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.) are seen by our companion animal veterinarians. If you have an “exotic” call to see if any of our staff veterinarians have expertise in their care.

We have an outstanding staff and facility enabling us to perform both equine and small animal major soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries as well as internal medicine cases. Our equine hospital/barn is located in the south wing, while our small animal facility is to our north side. The laboratory, reception, surgery, treatment center and pharmacy are in the center. We have excellent in house diagnostics including: a full service lab (CBC, chem-panels, electrolytes with blood gasses, cytology, fecals, bacteriology, urinalysis, etc.), true-digital radiology, endoscopy, EKG and digital ultrasonography. Over the years we have developed rapport with several outstanding veterinary specialists at both universities and specialty clinics when consultation or referral is indicated.

Our philosophy has always been to practice the highest quality surgery and medicine possible. We devote the time we feel our patients require and you as a client deserve, whether it be a surgical correction or medical diagnosis. Greenock is a family business; we understand the importance of the relationship between the Doctor, Patient and Client.
