Microchip Service
Greenock Farm Veterinary Hospital offers microchipping for your companion animal or horse. A microchip is a tiny computer chip which has an identification number programmed into it. The chip itself is tiny and is encapsulated in a biocompatible material. The device is small enough to fit into a needle and is injected sub-cutaneously in small animals or into the neck, just under the mane of the horse. This provides a permanent, safe and economical method of protecting your loved one from loss or theft. Through the microchipping system there are two methods of recovery of your lost dog, cat or horse. With small animals once we microchip your pet, you then register them with the “Home Again” lost pet network. In our equine patents following the microchipping, you register them with AVID’s Horsetrac Protection network. Both tracking systems offer a national computerized system for your companion animal or horse. When a lost or stolen animal is found and scanned those doing the scanning whether it be veterinarians, animal shelter or processing plants, contact HomeAgain/Horsetrac providing them with the unique identification number. Because you registered your animal, a HomeAgain or Horsetrac representative will now be able to contact you. In disasters such as Katrina, microchipping is invaluable in recovering and identifying lost pets and horses.
